Herne Hill School Prepare to welcome students with Neurodivergent-affirming training for all staff..
We were lucky enough to catch them between jobs and collaborate with the wonderful Sophie Varley, to deliver bespoke training for the school, as part of their preparations to welcome new and returning pupils for the start of the school year.
During our session we talked about:
• the importance of providing flexible facilities, suiting a variety of neurodivergent sensory needs
• how valuable it can be that children understand that different pupils may need different things, and that not everyone has the same expectations placed on them because of this
• finding ways to ensure that those that need breaks during teaching sessions are accommodated and thinking about different attention styles
"I am really glad you send (the anonymised training evaluation report) onto managers, it is really helpful to see the differences in (confidence) before and after but also, to have a list of what (staff) found useful and will do next."

AUTUM TERM CPD course refreshes
Over the summer we've been refreshing our CPD course content to include our neurodivergence quick reference guides and more examples of other common neurodivergent real-world situations - while keeping our focus on Autism, ADHD and AuDHD, in a general neurodivergent-affirming context - as a response to our clients' needs.
We offer open-access courses dates which can be signed up for on Eventbrite - ideal for individuals or smaller groups - and courses delivered in-house, on-site or online - being much more cost effective for groups larger than 15 people.

The difference that good teachers can make for undiagnosed autistic children (6 and a half minute listen)
11 Sept 2025 14:26
I recently delivered training to the wonderful Herne Hill School as part of their preparation for stating the autumn term and welcoming existing and new children back after the summer holidays. This prompted me to think about my own experiences of school as a very small child some 50 years ago, when there was little to no awareness of autistic people like myself, and how this impacted on me.
